Industrial gas destruction
Projects that destroy or reduce emissions of highly potent industrial greenhouse gases.

Overview
Industrial gas destruction projects are an emissions-reduction project type within the energy & industry segment of the carbon market. They are designed to destroy or reduce emissions of highly potent industrial greenhouse gases. The carbon benefit comes from avoided release of very high-GWP industrial gases. Common project configurations include N2O abatement; industrial process gas destruction where covered by methodology.
This has historically been one of the most scrutinized credit types because incentives must not create perverse production behavior. Many of these pathways focus on methane or other potent non-CO2 gases, so they can have strong near-term climate significance; at the same time, the integrity of baseline assumptions, destruction efficiency, and ongoing monitoring is especially important. For buyers and program designers, the most important diligence questions are: Is the baseline legally and economically credible? Are incentives creating perverse outcomes? Is monitoring continuous and independent?
