Industrial Energy and Water-use Innovations:
Scope 3 Services
Project:
The mitigation of Scope 3 emissions is crucial in the global effort to combat climate change, and this is particularly relevant in the floor mat service industry. Each 3’x10’ floor mat runner, when laundered, contributes a staggering 11 pounds of CO2 emissions, according to the Textile Rental Service Association (TRSA). Considering the industry processes millions of these mats daily, the cumulative greenhouse gas contribution is alarmingly high.
CDF Systems Inc., a Canadian innovator, has developed and patented a groundbreaking technology that significantly reduces water and natural gas usage in the cleaning process of rental floor mats. This is achieved by implementing a sophisticated water-recycling system and replacing natural gas with a more sustainable energy source, slashing the carbon intensity of each cleaning cycle by over 95%.
This project systematically measures the collective carbon emission reductions facilitated by the adoption of CDF System’s technology in the marketplace. Verified by Net-Zero Analytics and adhering to rigorous carbon accounting standards, the reductions represent a tangible step towards industry decarbonization.
This project’s aim is to promote the widespread adoption of CDF System’s eco-efficient cleaning technology across the floor mat service sector, steering it towards complete decarbonization and setting a precedent for other industries to follow. This initiative not only demonstrates the immediate benefits of reduced carbon emissions but also paves the way for broader, long-term environmental sustainability in commercial cleaning practices.
